HMI fixtures provide intense bright, daylight balanced light while consuming very little power as compared to quartz or tungsten sources of similar wattage. HMI and related arc-source location lighting fixtures are the "Go-to" option for shooting film and video outdoors. HMI Pars and HMI Fresnels from Mole-Richardson, Arri, and Strand Lighting are excellent choices for key lights and fill lights when shooting in daylight. Compact HMI fixtures in the 575W to 2.5Kw range are routinely employed in news gathering applications and "run and gun" environments but high power HMI location lighting fixtures are available for wide shots, or other situations requiring high output HMI heads.
