Historically, smaller dimmer packs operated on proprietary analog control protocols like CMX, MPX, and LPX- now most include DMX as standard or as an upgrade option, with many making wireless DMX an affordable choice. Single channel dimmers from Strand Lighting are small enough to mount directly to a fixture. Other 4 channel, 6 channel, and 8 channel dimmer boxes from companies like NSI/Leviton, Leprecon, and Lightronics can be stand mounted, truss mounted, even wall mounted in permanent/semi-permanent dimmer installations. 8 Channel, 12 Channel, and 24 Channel portable dimmers are also available in single rack unit models for integration into DJ and small traveling productions. Larger touring companies should consider rolling rack solutions which may provide up to 100 or even more dimming circuits for their lighting rig.
